The international organization that works with city representatives on Climate Change, recently chose Garcetti’s successor: Sadiq Khan; he will step up officially as the leader of C40 during COP26

London’s Mayor, Sadiq Khan, will become the new president of C40 Cities, the global network of nearly 100 cities committed to addressing climate change, of which the City of Buenos Aires is a member. Announced today by the C40 as its new president-elect, there will be a handover ceremony with the US Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, during COP26 on November 2 in Glasgow.

London was the founding city of C40 and its mayor has already taken action against the climate crisis by introducing the world's first Ultra Low Emission Zone, which has helped cut toxic air pollution in central London by almost half. while helping to reduce carbon emissions, among numerous other actions.

Mayor Khan has served as Vice President of C40 Cities since 2016, helping lead the group to commit to new goals that make cities greener. As part of this effort, London has joined other cities to adopt, develop and implement 1.5 degree climate action plans, with the Mayor of New York launching the C40 Divest / Invest Forum to help cities learn some of the others, face challenges and encourage action on the divestment of fossil fuels.

Sadiq will serve as president for two years with the option of a third year, if he has the endorsement of the Steering Committee.
