The Audiovisual Archive is a center of audiovisual production focused in the preservation, conservation, catalogue and publishing of contemporary Argentinean culture.

It is constituted by:

- Audiovisual interviews —produced by its own team— focused on the lives of the artists and on the creative process of the different disciplines: Literature, Theater, Visual Arts, Music and Movies.

- A documental base that includes audio and video recordings of TV and radio programs, readings, conferences, exhibitions, theater plays, documentaries and films on life and work of Argentinean writers, visual artists, theater personalities and musicians.

How does the Audiovisual Archive Visual Arts’ section work?

The public attention area is equipped with computers, television sets and CD, DVD and VHD players. Through a catalogue searching, it is possible for the user to watch on the computer, for example, the interviews done. It is also possible to watch a video or listen to an audio file of a theater director. To consult the registries, you must arrange an appointment:

Researchers can also consult the Centro de Documentación, Investigación y Publicaciones (CeDIP), an area that gathers a library, archives and the intellectual production of all the activities done at the Centro Cultural Recoleta, and also the ones done in other museums and cultural centers of this and foreign countries. The CeDIP works at the 1st floor of the Centro Cultural Recoleta, next to the Audiovisual Archive area.

Which is the difference between the material at the public attention area and the one on the website?

The audio and video archives on our website are fragments of the interviews done by the Audiovisual Archive team. The audio and video registries of all the sections are a little part of the original ones. At the public attention area it is possible to watch or listen to the complete documentaries.

Do you offer any advice?

In order to find what it is request, the Audiovisual Archive counts with skilled staff to help users through the searching, make easier the access to documents.

We are working with the Information System Area of the Buenos Aires City Government to develop a self consulting system in order to make easier the user’s access to all the Audiovisual Archive’s documental base in digital format.

How does the archive grow?

The Audiovisual Archive content actualization never stops. The documental base grows with the new interviews done by the Audiovisual Archive team, and through the support of writers’ relatives and friends, and all literature lovers who bring materials from their private archives.

How could I collaborate?

The Audiovisual Archive accepts donations.

However, in many cases, those who have any material from a relative or a loved one do not want to give it away. In those cases, a properly way is agreed in order to make a copy and give the original back to the owner.

In every case, the description of the material includes not only the author’s and copyright’s name, but also the identity of the one who has brought the material.

It is possible to copy the material?

No, the current legislation prohibits it.

Does the Audiovisual Archive loan the material?

No. The Audiovisual Archive does not work as a video club. The material is part of a documental base that has as main goal to keep and take care of the registries.
